The basis of this branch is of three Venart siblings from Corbrackey,
Tartaraghan marrying three McCabe siblings of Seagoe. The parents of the
Venart siblings were Joseph and Sarah Ann Venart. Joseph (a weaver) was
born in 1804 and died in 1874 in Corbrackey, Tartaraghan. His wife, Sarah
Ann, was born in 1805 and died in 1879. They had at least four children
that survived to adulthood ñ Mary Ann, John, Jane and Joseph.
Mary Ann, married Edward King in 1856 in Drumcree. No
John (1838) married Mary Ann McCabe in Seagoe in 1860.
Both were weavers.
John and Mary Anne had eight children, the first 6 in Ireland and the
1.Thomas (1861), married Euphemia Watson in Glasgow in 1883; they had
children ñ i) John (1884); ii) Euphemia (1887, died 1888), iii)
iv) Caroline (1891, died same year) v) Thomas (1892); vi) Emily (1894,
1902); vii) Janet (1897). Thomas died in Glasgow in 1899, and Euphemia
remarried to Richard Abraham in 1900. Euphemia died in 1912. 2. Eliza
Jane (1862, died 1868). 3. Samuel James (1863, died 1891). 4. Emily (1865,
married William Wilson in 1883). 5. Joseph (1866, died 1871). 6. Charles
Henry (1868, died 1872). 7. David (1871, died 1910). 8. Caroline (1873,
married Alexander Beaton 1899) John died in 1879 and Mary Anne remarried
to Richard Abraham (uncle of the Richard Abraham mentioned above).
Jane married Thomas McCabe in 1861 in Drumcree. They
had at least three
children, Joseph (1864), James (1868), Alexander (1876). No further details
Joseph (1841) married Eliza Jane McCabe (1848) in Drumcree
in 1867. Joseph and Eliza Jane settled in Derrycarn, Tartaraghan, and
had nine children ñ i) Eliza Jane, 1869; ii) Emily, 1872; iii)
Joseph, 1875; iv) Rachel, 1878; v) Mary Anne, 1880; vi) Thomas John, 1882;
vii) George, 1884; viii) Letitia, 1887; ix) Ephriam, 1891.
The Ellis Island passenger lists record Emily and Rachel arriving in New
York in 1896, and Joseph and Eliza arriving with their five surviving
children in 1897. It is not known where they went to in the States or
any of the children remained there. Joseph and Eliza Jane returned to
Ireland and died in Tartaraghan in 1925 and 1911 respectively. Letitia
returned and married James Robb in Lurgan in 1910, and Rachel died,
unmarried, in 1973 and is buried alongside her parents in Drumcree Parish
Church. The whereabouts of the other children is unknown, but there are
records in Ireland of their marriages or deaths.
